What are your biggest motivation blockers and how to smash through them!

Life Coach, Abi Unwin discusses the main blockers for motivation

I have coached hundreds of people to increase their motivation and find more meaningful, satisfying careers and fulfilling, personal growth. From my experience over the past 20 years, the main barriers to achieving goals can be broken down into these four areas which all impact motivation and confidence. Which one resonates most with you?

1. Do you care too much what others think?

Maybe this is stopping you from showing up as your true self. So ask yourself this question….what would I think if I saw someone going for their dreams and putting them self out there? Maybe I wouldn’t notice/care. Or I’d say good for them and perhaps I’d think, they are brave to do that. But whatever I would be thinking, it’s going to be a reflection of my inner beliefs and not really anything to do with them or their actions. Letting go of what we think others will think is a huge part of allowing yourself to get started with YOUR life and boosting your own motivation to succeed.

2. Are you backing yourself enough?

What would you be saying to a friend you really cared about to support them in challenging situations? ‘You can totally do it, you are amazing, think about when you did that before, you are so strong, you are so good at it, don’t give up!’ Notice what you’re telling yourself because if you are not backing yourself, you need to change your mindset.

3. Comparing to others.

Think back about how far YOU have come. If you have faced challenges, remember what you did to push through. If you have left a toxic environment or person, recall how you did it. If each day is feeling hard at the moment, ask yourself what motivates you to keep doing the work. Look inside yourself and blinker your vision to block out the noise. Everyone else is projecting their best self anyway, so it’s NEVER really a true or fair comparison.

4. Limiting beliefs- are you holding to them and giving them power?

For example: “I can’t start a business because I’m awful with figures.”

 I can start a business if I get an accountant. 

 I could start a business because I’m going to learn more about booking keeping. 

 I will start a business when I learn more about how to manage the finances. 

 I am thinking about starting a business because I have strengths but I’m aware I might need help from others in different areas.
