Welcome to November's holistic wellbeing post! I am delighted to introduce Julie Hall who has kindly written a guest post for us this month which centres around why holistic wellbeing is essential for success. Julie is a holistic therapist, aromatherapist, and advanced nurse practitioner based in Bristol. Drawing on her background in clinical care and holistic wellness, Julie supports individuals and workplaces to regulate the nervous system, restore balance, and reconnect with a calmer, more resilient way of living.
I had the pleasure of coaching Julie whilst she grew her business and now feature several of her products and services as part of my holistic coaching package and at AJC events. Clients on my Coach for a Year package can benefit from 50% off their first holistic wellbeing treatment as well as experience the wonder of her products in quarterly seasonal gifts.

The Role of Holistic Wellbeing in Defining Success
I simply love autumn. The colours and the scent of the trees, all signal quiet transformation and renewal. Early morning light, cool air, and a golden glow… is it just me, or does everything seem to soften?
There is an open invitation, perhaps even permission - to slow down, breathe more deeply, and shed what no longer serves us. It is a natural rhythm that many of us, caught in the demands of our careers or businesses, forget to honour in ourselves.
At what cost
In my work as both a nurse practitioner and holistic therapist, I see so many people pushing through exhaustion, running on adrenaline, and wondering why they feel disconnected from their sense of purpose (and yes, that was me too, after twelve years working in intensive care).
We are often taught that success comes from doing more - more hours, more effort, more striving to ‘be our best selves’ but at what cost?
The deeper work begins with regulation, restoration, and self-connection. It is about redefining what success means, not in society’s terms, but in your own.
Holistic wellbeing
Holistic wellness is about tending to the whole person - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, so we can show up as our most grounded, resourceful selves. When we are well, our energy becomes clearer, our focus sharper, and our decisions more aligned with what truly matters.
I see this pattern frequently in my clients. A woman comes to me because she’s overwhelmed, anxious, or cannot switch off at night. She wants to feel motivated and creative again but feels stuck in cycles of fatigue and self-doubt.
Through massage, aromatherapy, or Reiki, we work to bring her nervous system back into balance, to move her from a state of constant alert into one of safety and calm. And from that place, something remarkable happens; ideas begin to flow again. Confidence returns. She takes inspired action, not out of pressure, but from a place of clarity, ease, and safety.
Shifting the energy
Our bodies are always communicating with us. The tension in our shoulders, the headaches, the restless nights, these are all messages, gentle warnings.
When we ignore them, our energy gets pulled into managing symptoms rather than pursuing purpose. But when we listen, we create the conditions for success to grow naturally, to flow and to open us to new opportunities.
Simply put, being content and at peace within the body and mind nurtures growth and grace.
In the same way that autumn teaches us to release, holistic practice reminds us that letting go is part of progress. Whether it is releasing stress hormones through touch, scent, or the deep relaxation of Reiki, we make space.
By peeling back the layers of months, even years of anxiety, responsibility, and self-pressure, we learn to reconnect, love, and respect ourselves again.

Nervous system regulation
Holistic wellbeing is not separate from ambition, it is the foundation. Regulating the nervous system allows us to think creatively, problem-solve, and stay emotionally resilient when business or career challenges arise.
Simple practices, deep breathing, daily movement, nourishing food, aromatherapy, time in nature - are not indulgences. They are essentials for the modern nervous system. Without the basics, there is no foundation for progress.
In my own work, balancing clinical shifts in a busy acute medical unit with running a holistic business, I have learned that my energy determines the quality of everything I create.
When I am grounded, my decisions are clearer. When I rest, I lead better. When I prioritise my wellbeing, I attract opportunities that are aligned rather than forced.
Honouring your energy
As we move through autumn, consider your energy. Perhaps it is time to rest more, or to pause in stillness before the day begins. Maybe it is as simple as a walk outside, noticing the leaves changing, a gentle reminder that slowing down is not a setback - it is nature’s strategy for renewal and survival.
True success, I believe, is not just about reaching goals. It is about honouring ourselves.
When we nurture our own wellbeing, we create the conditions not only for our businesses to thrive, but for us to feel a deeper sense of belonging, in our work, and in ourselves.
More information
Julie offers treatments and consultations focused on aromatherapy, massage, and Reiki - helping people find clarity, calm, and confidence in both life and work. Launching this week, The Aromatherapy Experience is a one-hour sensory journey designed to support your emotional and physical wellbeing through the power of scent. 'Together, we’ll explore a wide range of essential oils, noticing which aromas resonate with you and how they make you feel. From there, I’ll create a personalised blend for you to take home ~ a small bottle of calm that continues to support you long after you leave the treatment room.'
It’s an invitation to pause. To connect with your senses. To rediscover what balance feels like, in your own body.
If you'd like to know more about Julie's work or book in for your treatment, you can find her on Instagram @juliemay_holistictherapy or head over to her website https://www.juliemayholistictherapy.co.uk/ for a wealth of information. My all time favourite is the Rose Holistic treatment and I can't wait to go back for another hour of rest and relaxation soon.
